Workshop to women and youth on the commission for truth, Reconciliation and Healing (CTRH) on the Revitalized peace Agreement in South Sudan.

Introduction

South Sudan has faced prolonged conflict marked by ethnic violence and political instability, leading to significant humanitarian crises. The Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), signed in 2018, aims to end the civil war and establish mechanisms for sustainable peace. The CTRH is a key institution under this agreement, tasked with investigating human rights violations, promoting reconciliation, and recommending measures for justice. Women and youth, disproportionately affected by the conflict, play crucial roles in peace building and community resilience. The workshop aims to empower them by providing knowledge about the CTRH and fostering their engagement in truth-telling and reconciliation efforts, thereby contributing to sustainable peace and social cohesion in South Sudan

Objectives of Activity:

  1. To educate youth and women about the CTRH’s background, mandate, and operational framework.
  2. To enhance practical skills such as conflict resolution, mediation, and dialogue facilitation.
  3. To foster inclusive discussions to promote mutual understanding among diverse groups.
  4. To provide targeted sessions on leadership and advocacy for effective peace building engagement.
  5. To facilitate networking opportunities to encourage collaboration and partnership.

Lessons Learnt

  • The participants encourage the organization to increase the number of participates in the future training plan
  • There is need to increase the number of days for the workshop since one day training was never enough to covered wide ranges of topics on peace building.
  • During the workshop we came to realize there low dissemination of Revitalize Agreement to the public especially on the topic of Commission on Truth, Reconciliation and Healing (CTRH) which was the main topic covered during the one day workshop.
